When GK – A Gotland Golf Experience
At När Golf Club, you can play golf in a relaxed and pleasant setting, steeped in the region’s shared history. The area is also rich in both flora and fauna, as well as ancient ruins from a bygone era.
The golf course in När is a coastal heathland course, where both the wind and the rugged Gotland landscape—enriched with herbs, juniper bushes, and wind-swept pines—contribute to your experience. The course’s origins can be traced back to “Galtungs-Lasse,” whose original six holes were laid out in “Hästhagen,” which today makes up most of the first nine holes.
After teeing off on the ninth hole, you conveniently pass the clubhouse and head out onto the final half of the course, which is a delightful mix of older and slightly newer holes, several of which are close to the sea. The final hole, “Home,” is played in classic style with the clubhouse in the background. There, you’ll want to round out your “Närska” experience with a delicious meal at Restaurant Fransan.
The relaxed atmosphere that always prevails at När GK also makes it a great place to practice, whether you’re a dedicated golfer or someone who just wants to give this wonderful game a try. The club offers a practice area with a driving range, a short-hole course, and practice greens—where everyone is welcome—as well as lessons for those who want to improve their game.
Our proximity to the Baltic Sea creates ideal conditions for a long golf season, and only the occasional night of frost prevents us from playing golf every day of the year.
The different golf seasons can offer many wonderful experiences for all types of golfers. In early spring, you’ll breathe a sigh of relief if you happen to hit a shot off-target and land among some of the beautiful, protected orchids that grow wild along the course. An October round when a northeasterly wind is blowing in from the sea is a real challenge even for the most skilled golfer. In the summer, the many hours of sunshine make the greens firmer and increase the demands on the precision of your approach shots.
